A good time to go solar in Tasmania – Image: Tiia Monto , CC BY-SA 4.0, Link
A new State Government scheme in Tasmania is enabling households and small businesses to install solar panels and other energy efficiency related products with the assistance of interest free loans.

Solar panels installed by Limitless Energy.
When Australian households first started installing solar, there were almost no restrictions on how much energy they could export back to the grid, and they received up to 60c per kWh for exporting it. Fast forward to today, and we have millions of rooftop solar systems meeting more than 13% of the country’s electricity demand. [Read more…]
Sometimes I write blog posts that are fact checks. But today’s is more a statement of fact. And that fact is:
If your electricity consumption is anywhere close to normal, it’s a bad idea to blow your only chance to use the battery rebate on a tiny 5 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, like the one promoted by Solar Battery Group’s letter mailout campaign.

As clocks go back one hour on April 5 across much of Australia, most households will simply enjoy an extra hour of sleep. But for some electricity customers on time-of-use plans, daylight saving can quietly eat into their hard-earned money if their usage isn’t timed just right. [Read more…]
Late last week, the Australian Energy Regulator went and shoved a Default Market Offer document onto the internet. But don’t worry — that’s normal behaviour for an Energy Regulator around this time of year. While all solar panels installed on homes in Australia have basic hailstone resistance attributes, some manufacturers take it a step further to provide a bit of extra peace of mind and a competitive edge. But we see some hail storms here that no panel could be expected to survive. [Read more…]

On Xmas day 2025, millions of rooftop solar panel systems installed across Australia did their bit to make the electricity consumed during celebrations cheaper and greener for all with impressive contributions to grid exports. Added to this major contribution were a bunch of shiny new home batteries seeing their first Xmas operations. [Read more…]
Old houses are a blessing, but energy efficiency isn’t always a strong point.
Can you install solar onto a house and still preserve its historic character? It is possible, but you may need to appease the neighbours and some narrowly designed rules. Read on for some good points to raise in support of your planning application.
