25 Years Of Sungrow Celebrated

Sungrow 25th Anniversary

From little things, big things grow. Chinese solar inverter and battery manufacturing giant Sungrow has formally celebrated its 25th anniversary.

It was on November 28, 1997 when then-university professor Cao Renxian launched Sungrow from what is described as a “humble” rented house in central China’s Anhui province.

A quarter of a century later and more than 269 GW of Sungrow inverter capacity has been installed worldwide. The last couple of years in particular have seen massive growth. With 154GW of capacity deployed by the end of 2020, around 43% of capacity deployment has occurred since that time.

But Sungrow isn’t just about solar inverters. The company has branched out into other renewables related hardware areas – energy storage systems (home, commercial and utility-scale), wind energy converters, EV chargers, and PV hydrogen solutions.

“Over the 25 years, we have been converting renewable energy to accessible, profitable, and sustainable electricity,” said Cao at an event celebrating the anniversary. ” We will always continue taking steps in order to fulfill our mission of ‘Clean power for all’ with continued innovations.”

As well as cranking out renewable energy hardware, the company has been putting an increasing focus on using renewables to manufacture it. Sungrow joined the RE100 in 20202 and pledged to switch to 100% renewable energy by 2028.

Sungrow In Australia

Sungrow arrived on the Australian solar inverter scene a decade ago and has a physical presence in North Sydney.

The company’s inverters have been popular in Australia for rooftop solar installations given their comparatively low pricing point, impressive feature set and reliability. Sungrow inverter reviews from Australian customers here on SolarQuotes have been generally positive, with the brand achieving an average 4.6 star rating overall from 1,908 ratings and 4.7 stars over the last 6 months.

In this year’s SolarQuotes Installers Choice Awards, Sungrow scored the gold gong for the best solar inverters in 2022 in the budget category. The company is also currently listed on SQ’s recommended inverter brands chart.

As for the firm’s home energy storage solutions and how they are faring in Australia, Sungrow solar battery reviews on SQ averaged 4.9 stars from 60 ratings at the time of publishing. Sungrow achieved second place in the SQ Installers Choice Awards for the best home batteries in 2022 (budget category).

It looks like there will be plenty more Sungrow gear heading for Australian shores in the time ahead. In late October the company inked 3GW of local inverter supply contracts during All Energy Australia 2022; one with One Stop Warehouse (2GW/3 Years) and the other with AC Solar Warehouse (1GW/2 Years).

“Sungrow will keep dominating Australia’s residential and C&I market through comprehensive and large-scale cooperation with its distinguished distributors,” the company modestly stated at the time.

The firm also scored 600MWh+ of battery energy storage system (BESS) contracts during the event. The largest was in relation to the Solar River Project in South Australia (360MW/292MWh) that Sungrow said is SA’s largest DC-coupled solar plus storage project.
