New World Record Claims From Longi Solar And Risen Energy

Longi Solar and Risen Energy

Two of the world’s solar panel manufacturing heavyweights have announced PERC technology related world record claims over the past week.

Longi Solar – Monocrystalline PERC Cell Record

Last week China’s Longi Solar said it had achieved a new monocrystalline silicon PERC1  world record conversion efficiency using a standard sized cell (156.75×156.75mm). It says according to tests carried out by China’s National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Solar Photovoltaic Product Quality (CPVT), a conversion efficiency of 24.06% was achieved.

“This is the first time that the efficiency of monocrystalline PERC solar cells in commercial dimensions have exceeded 24%,” said Longi Solar Vice President of Cell R&D,  Dr. Li Hua.

The new record is the latest in a string for the company, some of which we’ve previously reported on here and here.

Established in 2000, Longi Solar claims it is the largest supplier of monocrystalline silicon wafers in the world.

Longi arrived in Australia back in 2017. Of the Longi Solar panel reviews we’ve collected here on SQ so far, they’ve generally been very positive. The company is currently included on SQ’s trusted brands chart.

Risen Energy – Monocrystalline PERC Panel Record

Risen Energy announced last week its JÄGER HP module conversion efficiency was tested and certified by independent third-party institute TüV-SüD to have reached “up to 21%” conversion efficiency, which it says “rewrites the world record book of PERC module conversion efficiency.”

The JÄGER HP is a “half-cut” (aka twin cell or split cell) type solar panel. Risen says the panel has obtained the “Tier 1 Top Runner” certificate – you can learn more about China’s Top Runner program here.

Risen Energy has a significant presence in Australia both in terms of small- and large-scale solar energy. The Australian arm of Risen Energy acquired the Yarranlea Solar Farm project last year, a 121MW power station that will feature approximately 400,000 of the company’s panels. Risen says it has been supplying panels to the Australian market since 2008 and claims it was the seventh largest PV module supplier in 2017 globally.

As with Longi, Australian customer reviews of Risen Energy solar panels have generally been quite favourable. These reviews are submitted by owners who have had their panels installed for at least 12 months. Risen Energy also appears on SolarQuotes’ trusted brands chart.
