We recently kicked off the SolarQuotes Installer’s Choice Awards with the solar panel brands installers would choose for their own homes. This week, we’re turning our attention to the inverter — the box on the wall that converts DC solar power into the 230 volts AC your home uses.
What Is The Best Solar Inverter In 2026?
125 installers from the SolarQuotes network responded to this year’s survey, answering a simple question:
“If you were putting a solar inverter on your own home today, what brand would you choose?”
Sungrow came out on top with 27% of installer votes, ahead of Sigenergy on 22%, while long-time favourite Fronius rounded out the podium with 13%.
Best Solar Inverters In Australia: 2026
The battle for third was particularly close, with iStore finishing just one percentage point behind Fronius on 12%. Tesla came fifth with 7% even though their inverter only comes inside their Powerwall 3 battery.
First Place: Sungrow

A Sungrow hybrid inverter installed by Chief Electricians.
Sungrow has been around in Australia since 2012, but its story stretches back much further. Founded in China in 1997, it has grown into the world’s largest inverter manufacturer, shipping millions of units around the globe.
So why are installers voting for it?
One reason is flexibility. Sungrow’s residential inverters offer up to four MPPTs (Maximum Power Point Trackers), allowing solar panels to be spread across multiple roof orientations while still performing efficiently. That’s particularly useful on the complex roof designs common in Australian homes.
Installers also like the fact that Sungrow packs plenty of capability into a relatively affordable inverter. Features such as Arc Fault Circuit Interruption (AFCI) come enabled as standard, allowing the inverter to detect potentially dangerous DC arcs and shut down before they start a fire.
Sungrow inverters can also accommodate more solar panel capacity than their nominal AC rating.
Second Place: Sigenergy

Sigenergy Sigenstor and Gateway installed by Stag Electrical Solar and Refrigeration.
Finishing a close second was Sigenergy with 22% of installer votes.
That’s an impressive result for a brand that’s only been operating in Australia for a few years.
Much of Sigenergy’s popularity comes from its all-in-one approach. Its modular design combines batteries, inverters and energy management into a single stackable system, creating a tidy installation that has proven popular with both installers and homeowners.
The company’s rise hasn’t been entirely without challenges. Last year, certain single-phase Sigenergy units were recalled following problems with overheating AC connectors. The issue generated significant discussion within the industry, particularly around the causes of the failures, with Sigenergy redesigning the connector and promising to replace affected products.
Despite that setback, installers clearly remain enthusiastic about the brand. Finishing just five percentage points behind Sungrow suggests Sigenergy has quickly established itself as a serious player in Australia.
Third Place: Fronius

Fronius Primo GEN24 invereter installed by MC Electrical.
Rounding out the podium was Fronius with 13% of installer votes.
Founded in Austria shortly after World War II, Fronius is one of the most established names in solar inverters and remains privately owned by the founding family.
For many years, Fronius was considered the benchmark inverter brand in Australia. In fact, it won the SolarQuotes Installer’s Choice Award for five consecutive years.
This year’s third-place finish highlights how competitive the inverter market has become, with newer brands offering increasingly capable products for less money.
Even so, Fronius remains one of the most respected inverter brands in the industry and continues to enjoy strong support from installers.
The Inverter Market Is As Competitive As Ever
Congratulations to Sungrow on taking out top spot in the 2026 SolarQuotes Installer’s Choice Awards for solar inverters.
The results also show just how competitive the inverter market has become. Whether installers favour Sungrow’s feature-packed approach, Sigenergy’s integrated energy system or Fronius’ long-standing reputation for quality, Australian homeowners have no shortage of good options.
